Manager Bio

Marcelo Bielsa is the head coach of Leeds United, having taken charge in June 2018.

As a player, the Argentinian represented Newell's Old Boys, Instituto and Argentino de Rosario in his homeland before retiring at the age of 25.

He became a youth coach at Newell's Old Boys in 1980, developing players including ex-Southampton and Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino, before becoming the first-team manager in 1990.

Bielsa went on to manage Mexican sides Atlas and America in the 1990s, along with Argentinian club Velez Sarsfield, before a stint at Espanyol in Spain was cut short as he was offered the chance to coach the Argentina national team.

During his six years in charge, Argentina finished as runners-up in the 2004 Copa America and won the gold medal at the 2004 Olympic Games.

Bielsa then spent four years as Chile's manager, reaching the last 16 of the 2010 FIFA World Cup, before returning to club management with Athletic Bilbao in 2011.

The Spanish side finished as runners-up in both the 2011/12 UEFA Europa League and Copa Del Rey, before Bielsa left the club in the summer of 2013.

He had brief spells with Marseille, Lazio and Lille between 2014 and 2017, before taking charge of Leeds in the summer 2018.

The Whites finished third in the Championship in Bielsa's first season at Elland Road, losing to Derby County in the playoff semi-finals.

But in 2019/20, the club ended their 16-year wait for a Premier League return as Bielsa led them to the Championship title.
